Sunflowers..

Dear Garden,

When I was younger, being tall was bitter sweet. I would tower over my peers similar to that of a sunflower towering over its companions in the garden. This is probably the reason why I have always had a sweet spot for sunflowers. The rays they cast in the garden as they embody the star for which it’s namesake. One word, breathtaking.

Though I have been long time lover of the sunflower, this was actually my first year growing them. We bought our home in 2018 and before then I wanted to have a garden but renting in an apartment made it difficult for me to have that. So now that we have begun to settle in, my garden dreams have flourished. I direct seeded several sunflowers in front of the greenhouse. This area gets full sun all day, which made it the perfect spot. They came up quite fast leaving me with a show I would never forget.

Sunflowers though a summer show stopper, are a fall staple as well. I decided to create a Fall floral arrangement using them as well as cosmos stems, gomphrena, and zinnias.

I love how the arrangement turned out and I hope I have time to cut a few more flowers before the first frost arrives.

Sincerely Yours,
