Reflecting on the brand that is Dearest Garden…

Sooo for almost a year, I neglected the Dearest Garden blog. Not to say I stopped creating content all together. Those who follow me on Youtube & Instagram, know that I post quite frequently on those platforms. For some reason though, I could not bring my self to document the 2022 growing season in a written format. Which is sad now that I think about. I could say that it is the fault of social media (and yes my fault as well)..

I felt like I needed to constantly create short form videos, just to stay relevant and to build an audience. It got the best of me. So much so that my drive to create long form content, started to fall short as well (pun intended). Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy creating digital content in that manner. I think reels and shorts are a great way to build your brand and reach new audiences. But by chasing those results, I neglected my why. The reason for beginning this journey in the first place and for creating Dearest Garden.

It seems to happen to a lot of us. The instant gratification you receive when you post that short/reel is nice. But I allowed it to overshadow the main goal of Dearest Garden. Which is of course to grow “all the plants & chase all the butterflies”, but also to build something that goes beyond a like and a share.

October Harvest

The funny thing is, I spent months asking myself “what am I actually building”, “why am I doing this”, “should I change directions”. Which I believe is another reason why I stopped blogging. It is difficult to pursue something when you have a hard time understanding your own reasonings for doing it. To be honest, I still have a hard time coming up with the answers. All I know is seeing the pollinators fly into my garden, cutting flowers, and basking in those summer harvest are all my current “whys”. And that alone is enough to bring me back to my Dearest Garden. Don’t think you need this elaborate meaningful reason to start or keep doing something like I thought I needed. You could just simply love seeing the flowers or growing food. No matter how simple it is, if it motivates you to sow the seed, it is as all you need.

With that said, I am setting a goal for healthier behavior in the garden and out of it. Online and offline. Which involves taking the time out to write, even if it only gets read by just a few. I think learning how to be comfortable with that will the be the challenge I need as we head into the 2023 growing season and oh what a season it will be.

Stay tuned…
